42nd Ontario general election

The 42nd Ontario general election is tentatively scheduled to be held on October 4, 2018. Under amendments passed by the Legislative Assembly of Ontario in 2004, Ontario elections are now held on the first Thursday of October in the fourth calendar year, unless the Assembly is dissolved earlier by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario due to a motion of no confidence. Such a dissolution is unlikely as the current government has a majority, though Premier Kathleen Wynne has stated that she may decide to dissolve the Assembly in the spring of 2018 rather than in October of that year in order to avoid any conflict with municipal elections and take advantage of better weather and longer days.
==Ridings==
On June 4, 2015 the Attorney General of Ontario Hon. Madeleine Meilleur moved the first reading of Bill 115, also referred to as ''Representation Act, 2015''.〔http://www.ontla.on.ca/web/house-proceedings/house_detail.do?Date=2015-06-04&Parl=41&Sess=1&locale=en#P995_171404〕 This bill has passed the second reading on November 4, 2015 and referred to the standing committee on social policy.
Like the previous Representation Act tabled in 2005, 11 ridings have been preserved for Northern Ontario, while the rest of the province will be divided into 111 electoral districts which follow the 2013 Representation Order. Upon the bill receiving Royal Assent, the Assembly's seat count will change from 107 to 122. The changes would take place provided the current Assembly does not dissolve before November 30, 2016.
